Restaurant menu analytics without cookies: what to measure and why privacy matters

Learn which digital menu metrics matter (views, dishes, languages, QR sources) and how to measure them without cookies, consent banners or personal data.

A digital menu can tell you things a printed one never could: which dishes get attention, which languages guests speak and which QR code brought them in. You can learn all of this without tracking people.

The metrics that matter

  • Menu views and visitors per day: are QR codes being scanned? Does the window sticker bring people in?
  • Most viewed dishes and categories: what catches attention, and what nobody looks at.
  • Languages: which languages guests' phones prefer and which they switch to. This is your translation roadmap.
  • Sources: tables vs window vs flyers vs Instagram, using a different tagged QR code or link for each.
  • Ordering funnel (with table ordering): from viewing a dish to adding it to the cart to ordering.

Why "no cookies" matters for a menu

A guest scanning your menu should see food, not a consent banner. Cookie banners on a menu are friction at exactly the wrong moment, and storing personal data creates obligations you don't need.

Dishfolio's analytics:

  • use no cookies and store no IP addresses
  • count unique visitors with a hash that changes every day, so visits can't be linked across days
  • respect Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Control: those visits aren't recorded at all
  • ignore bots

The result is anonymous, aggregated insight, enough to run a restaurant, with nothing personal to protect.

Turning numbers into decisions

  • Low views at the table? Make QR codes bigger and add a line like "Menu in 4 languages".
  • A dish with many views but few orders? Check the price, photo and description.
  • A language growing month on month? Add a translated signature dish description or a staff member who speaks it.
  • Window code performing well? Add one to your delivery bags too.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a cookie banner for my digital menu?

Not with Dishfolio's analytics. They don't use cookies or store personal data, so no consent banner is shown to guests.

Can I see which dishes guests look at most?

Yes. Pro and Business show the most viewed dishes and categories, languages and QR sources. Business adds orders and revenue.
